“I don’t really care about my birthday” or “You don’t need to get me anything for my birthday”. These are common statements many of us make, even though we all secretly love our birthday and enjoy some pampering on this marvelous day. And one of the best of ways of commemorating this great day is by gifting a personalized photo book containing all of the photographic memories cherished by not just the receiver, but the entire family as well.
However, there are some dos and don’ts and neat tricks with which gifting such a present will be a guaranteed success.
The beauty of creating a birthday-themed photo book with an online photo book builder is that there are virtually no limits. In fact, some photo book companies allow multiple users to contribute to a project either by letting them make modifications on the future book or by providing the option to upload pictures to a (joint) account. Speaking of pictures, anything goes, provided that the chosen pictures are of acceptable quality (this is especially important if the pictures are scanned) and perfectly represent the personality of the receiver.
As for the format of the book, huge album-sized books are out of the game: an ideal birthday photo book doesn’t need to be bigger than 8×8. The book’s shape can be either square or landscape, while covers can be anything from softcover to leather covers – albeit, in the latter case, a hardcover with the best picture you could find printed thereon is probably the best option due to its durability, price and overall appearance.
For some reason, birthday themes are not as widespread as, for instance, Christmas, travel and baby photo book themes. Still, this is easily resolved by choosing any book theme you and the contributors prefer. If you are concerned that the selected theme (including blank ones) is anything but festive, don’t worry: photo book builders provide tons of embellishments (stickers), backgrounds and other ways to transform those blank white pages and non-festive themes into a true birthday present.
Now the arrangement of the pictures is another thing, because you have plenty of options as well. The most logical one is to go from the oldest picture to the newest. However, if the photo book is gifted to someone with a round birthday (preferably those ending in zero), you have the perfect opportunity to create “chapters” in the book (pictures from the receiver’s 10s, 20s, 30s etc.), allowing you to try out a different arrangement of pictures while still keeping the linear format.
Sometimes, no matter how great your efforts and how good your intentions are, there is a huge chance that your present won’t be enjoyed by the receiver or you have no idea how to create a photo book and what to include therein. To avoid these awkward moments, photo book companies are always prepared with a plan B: gift vouchers.
We already talked about the gift voucher system, so to quickly recap it, a voucher is basically a prepaid “ticket to Disneyland”: the receiver gets an electronic or physical voucher containing a code with which he/she can create the photo book of his/her dreams for free.
